The Organic Choice
The Organic Choice
When you talk to a grandmother, you’ll hear all the advice of the day about how she raised her kids and she’ll probably say, “Well that’s how we used to do it and they turned out ok”. Some of those ideas still stick today and are still the best choice. Others, well, let’s just say we’ve learned a lot along the way. Through research and due to our changing world, it is believed there are healthier and safer choices than having babies sleep on their stomachs, feeding them whole milk immediately or just riding in the car with your child on your lap.
Those were the days and now we’re in our day with more information than ever about what is safe and what isn’t. Which brings us to the discussion of why to use organic products?
According to the Organic Trade Association, “Buying organic is about more than keeping pesticides out of our bodies. It is about supporting a system of sustainable agricultural management that promotes soil health and fertility through the use of such methods as crop rotation and cover cropping, which nourish plants, foster species diversity, help combat climate change, prevent damage to valuable water resources, and protect farmers and farmers' families from exposure to harmful chemicals. Buying organic is about both understanding and commitment: understanding that personal and environmental health is inseparable, and commitment to the bigger, more complex picture of which our personal health is a part. Do we still have to make choices about which items to buy? Absolutely. But in making this choice, we should think less about crossing certain organic items off our shopping lists and more about how we can achieve positive personal, social and environmental change through the organic purchases we choose to make.” For more information, see http://ota.comIs organic for you?
